As powerful in defense as in attack, the lancer’s role in a fight is at the head of the formation. His heavy shield absorbs damage, while his lance provides striking power that’s targeted yet effective against multiple foes. Numerous skills for drawing aggro let the lancer take the heat and give his party members more opportunities. Lancers can minimize damage to their own party and help them devastate the enemy.
There is little finesse to a lancer's assault. They batter foes to the ground and clear a safe path for comrades in battle. Shield blocks reduce damage for the lancer and their allies, creating a savings in support resources like healing. Lancer skills include thrusts, charges, parries, bashes, aggro-attracting shouts, and retaliatory strikes.
The lancer’s most effective defensive skills use a resource called Resolve instead of MP, giving them more flexibility in combat. Resolve regenerates quickly when not attacking, and also can be restored by certain skills.
Lancers are most valuable in a tanking role, where they provide a zone of diminished damage for comrades who need a breather between heals or a safe place from which to cast or shoot. They are the cornerstone of any solid party, and equally effective as protectors and one-on-one combatants.

|1||Stand Fast||Block frontal attacks with your shield, reducing damage for yourself and allies behind you for as long as you have Resolve and hold down the skill button.|

|6||Shield Bash||Briefly stun one or more foes.|

|12||Retaliate||Leap to your feet while attacking your target. You can use this skill only when knocked down.|
|14||Second Wind||Recovers HP and restores Resolve.|
|18||Challenging Shout||Draws the attention of nearby monsters, and generates aggro.|
|20||Onslaught||Rush forward and deliver a series of attacks.|
|22||Guardian Shout||Increases the Endurance of nearby allies, but not your own.|
|26||Leash||Throw a magical hook and chain that drags an enemy toward you. Won't work on huge opponents.|
|26||Shield Counter||Allows a chance to shield-thump your foe while using Stand Fast.|
|28||Debilitate||Bash an opponent and briefly drain its Endurance. Stacks up to three times.|
|28||Wallop||Jump forward and hammer the ground, damaging and possibly stunning nearby opponents.|
|32||Menacing Wave||Decreases Movement Speed and Attack Speed of nearby opponents.|
|36||Iron Will||Absorbs damage, consuming 1 MP for every 20 damage absorbed.|
|42||Master's Leash||Throw another hook to pull the target nearer. You can use this skill only after using Leash.|
|46||Lockdown Blow||Deliver a crippling attack that decreases an opponent’s Movement Speed.|
|50||Infuriate||Enrages nearby monsters and increases your aggro to the maximum amount.|
|56||Pledge of Protection||Absorb a portion of your group’s damage for a few seconds, applying it to your own Defense instead.|
|58||Adrenaline Rush||Increases your Attack Speed, decreases skill cooldowns, and generates additional aggro.|
|60||Chained Leash||Throw a chain at a nearby target, stunning it and pulling up to six other enemies to the same spot.|
|61||Rallying Cry||Draws aggro and briefly grants your party immunity to knockdown and stagger.|
|65||Hold the Line||Increases aggro and adds Resolve after a properly timed block. Effect stacks up to 20 times.|
Starting at level 20, lancers can use glyph points to customize skills in a variety of ways.
