Understanding Stats

Stats are much more than a collection of ratings; they combine to determine how well you attack, defend, stay on your feet, and more. Various items also have stats, which provide modifiers to your character’s stats.

What Are the Stats?

Every character’s statistics fall into the category of either basic statistics or combat statistics.

Basic Statistics

  • Power represents your character’s prowess, which might be physical or magical.

  • Endurance represents your character’s ability to defend.

  • Impact factor represents your character’s ability to trigger “knockdown/stagger” effects when you attack. It is opposed by balance factor.

  • Balance factor represents your character’s ability to resist “knockdown/stagger” effects when you defend. It is opposed by impact factor.

  • Attack speed represents how quickly your character makes an attack, recovers, and gets ready to make another attack. Weapons, rings, necklaces, and crystals can provide bonus to your attack speed.

  • Movement represents how fast your character moves. Movement speed during combat is significantly slower. Shoes and crystals can provide bonus to your movement speed.

Combat Statistics

  • Attack increases the damage your character does. Your attack is based on your power stat, plus any bonuses from your character’s item, such as weapons, gloves, rings, necklaces, and crystals.

  • Defense increases your character's passive damage mitigation. Your defense is a combination of your endurance and any bonuses from your character’s items, such as weapons, gloves, rings, necklaces, and crystals.

  • Impact increases your character’s ability to knock down or stagger the opponents you successfully hit. Your impact is derived from your impact factor and your bonuses from items, such as weapons, gloves, rings, necklaces, and crystals.

  • Balance increases your characters ability to resist impact, and is a combination of your balance factor and bonuses from your items, such as chest armors, shoes, earrings, and crystals.

  • Crit rate represents the chance that you’ll inflict a critical hit on opponents in combat.

  • Crit resist refers to your chance to resist the effects of a critical hit.

  • Crit power refers to how much damage you do when you inflict a critical.

Additionally, items can modify your stats in a few different ways.

Item Statistics

  • Attack modifier is a bonus applied by an item to your character’s attack combat stat.

  • Defense modifier is a bonus applied by an item to your character’s defense combat stat.

  • Impact modifier is a bonus applied by an item to your character’s impact combat stat.

  • Balance modifier is a bonus applied by an item to your character’s balance combat stat.

How Are Stats Calculated?

Every character has four combat stats that derive from other stats, along the lines of these formulas:

  • Attack = power + attack modifier + item bonuses + buffs (and other effects)

  • Defense = endurance + defense modifier + item bonuses + buffs (and other effects)

  • Impact = impact factor + impact modifier + item bonuses + buffs (and other effects)

  • Balance = balance factor + balance modifier + item bonuses + buffs (and other effects)

It’s important to note that this is just the easiest way of expressing TERA’s complex game-design formula; it’s more than just simple addition. These formulas really just help you visualize the factors involved, rather than the actual calculations.

What Else Do I Need to Know?

A character’s attack or power stats do not affect healing spells—that is, having high scores in either of those stats won’t increase how much HP you recover when using healing spells.
